5K Road Race Held at John Jay Homestead in October

The first annual ‘Where the Pavement Ends’ 5K Road Race, organized by Bedford Magazine to benefit the John Jay Homestead Carriage Barn Project, took place on Sunday, October 21. There were some 200 enthused runners who shot off the starting line to the resounding tune of “Who Let the Dogs Out.” The five-mile course took runners down the Homestead’s Farm Lane, along Maple Avenue, through the trails of the Harvey School and back to the Homestead on a private trail. The finish line was by the front door of the Homestead’s historic main house. There was music, beer and food at the Main Barn after the race. After catching their breath, the first thing racers asked was: When is next year’s race? Stay tuned.

Sponsors of the race were Hickory & Tweed, Coldwell Banker, Richard Oliver House, Northern Westchester Hospital, Capt. Lawrence Brewery, Wendy’s Closet, Country Willow. La Cremailliere, Meetinghouse Restaurant, ProBody Personal Training, Bedford Hills Family Chiropractic, Bedford Village Florist, Harvey School, Carol Kurth and Friends of John Jay Homestead.

“The sponsors and racers were extremely excited about this event and are all looking forward to growing it into a much larger annual event,” says Bedford Magazine publisher Geoffrey Morris. “We’re off to a good start.”
