WINTER BREAK MINI-CAMPS

A two-hour educational program for kids ages five to ten, held during winter break, with each day focused on a different topic. This is a drop off program that begins at 10 AM, reservations required.  Admission charge:  $15.00 per child, $12.00 for members.

Monday, December 27

The artist in you!  Do you like art?  Did you ever wonder what the difference is between a painting and a print?  Or how long it took to have your portrait painted 200 years ago?   Children will explore the extensive art collection at the Homestead, and then try their hand at print making.

Tuesday, December 28

Come party like it’s 1820!  How did people cook, dine and entertain 200 years ago?  Children will take an interactive tour of the museum’s kitchen and dining room that includes a look at many touchable objects. Learn what it was like to attend a party during John Jay’s time and make marzipan sculptures.  Please note:  Marzipan is an almond based product

Wednesday, December 29

Architectural Scavenger Hunt.  Explore the historic house and discover the amazing architecture at John Jay Homestead.  Look for undiscovered features around each corner.  Learn about various architectural styles represented at the Homestead and in your community, and build a gingerbread house.

Thursday, December 30

A Jay Holiday.  How did John Jay and his family celebrate the winter time?  What type of decorations did they put up?  Tour period rooms decorated for the holidays in the style of the 1820s and make your own traditional winter decoration – a pomander ball.
